The Larry Mullen Jr. Awards are presented by TWIRFMR to recognize excellence in aging.

…and the Larry goes to….Chris Difford and Glenn Tilbrook! Singer-songwriters extraordinaire, and the beating heart of Squeeze, Difford (55) and Tilbrook (52) have composed music as lyrically advanced as any piece of great literature and their harmonies are unspeakably divine . Both Chris and Glenn may have gone through their self-absorbed ponytail years, but today, Squeeze’s brand of pop is just as smart and sophisticated as it was over thirty years ago.

Congrats to Mssrs. Difford and Tilbrook….Lookin’ good!

“I saw rock ‘n roll future, and boy, does it look good at 60″—- Music critic Jon Landau, slightly paraphrased.

…and the Larry goes to…The Boss! Bruce Springsteen, singer-songwriter, rock star, national treasure, has been making records and bucking trends for roughly forty years. Even if his music isn’t your thing, he deserves, nay, commands your respect as he’s never compromised his art and has yet to phone it in, even after sixteen albums and hundreds upon hundreds of live shows.

Congrats to Mr. Springsteen….Lookin’ good!

The Larry Mullen Jr. Awards are presented by TWIRFMR to recognize excellence in aging.

…and the Larry goes to…The B-52′s! Hailing from Planet Claire via Athens Georgia, the B-52′s have been recording and touring since 1978, the year their fantastic debut album, The B52′s, was released to an unsuspecting Earthling public. Thirty years later, Fred Schneider (58), Kate Pierson (61), Cindy Wilson (52), and Keith Strickland (56) have maintained the camp aesthetic and retro-vibe that contribute to their timeless mystique without losing a shred of dignity. The B-52′s are  still rockin’, still fruggin’, and seemingly nowhere near membership in the AARP.

Congrats to The B-52′s…Lookin’ good!

Zoom zooms through bad-ass riffs and solos effortlessly, all the while sporting his trademark boyish smile. BZ, his gold guitar, and the music of X:  timeless  American classics.

Congrats to Mr. Zoom…Lookin’ good!

He is also a two-time oscar winner; once, for the above mentioned My Left Foot and again for his fucking astonishing portrayal of Daniel Plainview in director P.T. Anderson’ s instant classic, There Will be Blood. Completely uninterested in the Hollywood machine, DDL is a soft-spoken Englishman who rarely grants interviews and is famously rumored to have worked as a cobbler in Italy during a five-year hiatus from the industry.

The Larry Mullen Jr. Awards are presented by TWIRFMR to recognize excellence in aging.

…and the Larry goes to….Paul Simonon!  The rough-and-tumble bass player of the “only band that matters” (do I need to mention that we’re talking about the Clash? God, I hope not.) is, at 55 years old, dapper as hell and still playing killer bass.  Check him out in Damon Albarn’s supergroup, The Good, the Bad, and the Queen.

Congrats to Mr. Simonon…..Lookin’ good!
